With hearts full of sadness, we announce the passing of Peter John Field on August 24, 2026, at the age of 78. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Born on April 1, 1948, in Chatham, Ontario, Pete grew up and raised his family in Blenheim, Ontario. He was a machinist with CSX Railroad and a man who could fix just about anything. He was someone you could always count on—for his kindness, his generosity, and a helping hand whenever it was needed.
Some people leave footprints in the world; others leave pieces of themselves in the hearts of everyone who knew them. Pete was one of those people.
Pete’s greatest legacy will not be measured in accomplishments or possessions, but in the people he loved, the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created. His greatest pride and joy was his family.
He was predeceased by his beloved son, Ryan; his parents, Leo and Helen; and his brother, William.
Pete will be deeply missed by his wife of 57 years, Judy (née Muckle); his daughter, Nicole, and son-in-law, Steve Basiaco; and his grandchildren, Abigail and Ryan. He will also be lovingly remembered by his brother, James Field; his sister, Diane (Ivan) Guy; brothers-in-law Richard (Christine) Muckle and Jeff (Robbie) Muckle; and sister-in-law Rosemarie Field.
He will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Ashley (Steve) Wragg, Brian (Danna) Muckle, Vanessa (Brian) Vanderkaden, Jason (Dawn) Field, Jody (Rob) Merritt, and Krista Guy, as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews who brought him immense joy. Pete will also be missed by countless friends and neighbours whose lives were made a little better simply because he was a part of them.
Although our hearts are heavy with sadness, we are also grateful for every moment we were given with Pete and for the love and memories that will remain with us always.
The family is deeply grateful to the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent for the loving care, patience, and comfort they provided to Pete. We are equally grateful to the phenomenal team at Chatham-Kent Hospice, who cared for Pete like he was family and brought comfort and compassion to him and his loved ones during his final days.
Please join us for a casual gathering to celebrate Pete’s life and share memories on Thursday August 27th from 2-4 pm at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home.
As per Pete’s wishes, he will be cremated, with a private family service to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Pete’s memory are invited to consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent Day Program https://alzheimer.ca/chathamkent/en, Chatham-Kent Hospice https://chathamkenthospice.com/ , Parkinson’s Society Chatham https://psso.ca/how-to-help/donate/ or a charity of your choice.
Pete’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

  • Judy, Nicole and family,
I was very saddened to hear of Pete’s passing. It has been many years since I moved away from Canada.
I will never forget his kind and gentle sole. He was such a great Father to Nicole and Ryan, and a wonderful husband to Judy. I remember those very late night drives from your house to mine after a long night of babysitting the kids, he always had great conversation and stories to tell, while I’m sure I was half asleep and not listening.
He was such a generous person always willing to help, where ever you and what ever you needed. Such a great and wonderful man. He always had some great story to tell and always had such a great laugh. He will be missed.
    Rest In Peace Pete🙏🙏❤️❤️
