With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong fisherman whose love for the water defined much of his life.  Throughout his career as a commercial fisherman captain on the tug boat Kar Lou, he found purpose on the open water, earning the respect of fellow fishermen through hard work and determination.

Fred leaves behind his wife and best friend of 59 years Barbara (Round).  He was born in Port Elgin to the late William and Alma (Terry).  Cherished father of Lisa (Stephen) Rigby and their children Austin and Aiden who he was so proud of.  Father of Frederick James Jr and his children Cody, Brylie and Tryten.

Predeceased by his brothers Ed, Ralph and Carl, sisters Edith and Marie.  Survived by his brother Norman.  Brother in law to Doug Round, Daniel Round (deceased), Dona Fields, David Round (deceased), Patricia Dyck, Linda Heyninck, Duane Round (deceased) Carol Round, Marjorie (Dave) Trotechaud, Deb (Doug) Toland, Darrel Round (deceased), Dean Round and Doreen (Gord) McGee.  Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home on Monday May 18, 2026 from 11 – 1 p.m. followed by the funeral.  Interment at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of donations, Fred would be most happy if you spent time on the water, which he was never far from, enjoying those you hold dearest.

  • To Lisa, Steve, and the boys, Aunt Linda and of course your wonderful Mom, Barb. Lisa, I know how close you were to your parents and I know this will leave a quite a void in your heart for the days to come. I will not forget some of the few times I met them and of course the stories you enjoyed with your parents and my favourite one will be of your mom ordering her food off the overhead menu, it was the number 4 I think she liked the most. I am so sorry to hear of the news of his passing and may all the memories, love you shared, and the years that you were blessed to have with him will help ease your grief and sorrow. My deepest sympathies and condolences to you and your family.

  • My heart breaks with this heavey news. You have been on my mind the last year and how to let you know I'm starting my own guided fishing program, but now I know you'll be able to watch. Thank you for believing in me, not excluding me, teaching me to tie knots, bait hooks, drive boats and fish with passion. I saw you make a life of fishing, always up at 4am at the boat before everyone else and I want to do the same, so I am. Barb always said I had a good head on my shoulders and I didn't realize that until later in life after starting and running my own construction business and building my own house with my wife to start a famly. Grandpa I watched you get things done, solve problems and be the man any grandchild should look up to and I thank you for that. Love you
