2014-02-19 “What Makes Us Different”

Over the next couple of weeks I want to talk a bit about what I think makes us different at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home…this is week one.

Our motto at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home is “yes we can” or more importantly “yes YOU can”.  I encourage people to follow their hearts.  There is no rubber stamp for a funeral and we encourage families to make each funeral service a true reflection of the person who passes away.  There are no silly ideas, there are no silly questions.  You have only one chance and you won’t regret the things that you did; only the things that you wished you did but were afraid to ask.  We will do our very best to attend to every detail and even anticipate what your needs might be even before you do so that we have whatever we need to make your time with us easier.

What makes us different starts at the very beginning.  Many funeral homes subscribe to an answering service to take their calls after normal business hours.  I have committed that when someone needs us in the middle of the night they will hear our voices on the other end of the phone so that when you are sad and overwhelmed you will feel assured.

When someone dies at home, we will come to your house regardless of the time of day or night.  When someone dies in a hospital, some funeral homes wait until the next morning to go and make that removal.  In that case, the person who died is placed into the refrigeration unit in the morgue.  I have always said that I will treat people the same way that I wanted my mother treated.  And so, regardless of the time of day or night, I will go to the hospital and bring your loved one back home to Blenheim…even if it’s 4 a.m.  When a family requests, I will come right to the hospital bed and make the removal from there so that even going to the morgue temporarily doesn’t have to happen.  Sometimes families want to stay until I arrive at the hospital and sometimes they want to help.  Remember this…yes you can!
