Condolences

I got to know "Jim" while serving with the Last Post Fund, at which time I was able to spend some time with the love of his life, Ruth. I always enjoyed conversations with this fine gentleman. Coincidently, I bumped into a photo of Jim, his father and Ruth proudly displayed at Avril Williams Guest House in France on September 10th. Bless you Jim and thank you for a lifetime of service. Love to you Ruth.

Sincere condolences to you Ruth, and your family. It was a pleasure to have known such an amazing man. Always a warm smile and chat. Take comfort in all the memories you hold in your heart.

Ruth and Cathy and family so sorry to here about Jim. I think of him often remembering all the good times at Elections Canada and all the great stories he told. Sending all my love Cathy aka (Friday)

Dear Ruth, Kathy and Jamie and families, I cannot image Erieau without Jim, his stories, smile, always sorting sailing equipment for the EYC or just sitting down and having a conversation in his chair, with a whiskey with his friends each week. Please know how much we valued him as a member of the community and as a neighbour on Mariner's Road. The boys always loved visiting - so much to look at! Our prayers and thoughts will be with all of you this week and over the next year as the anniversaries of his birthday, Christmas and family traditions pass without him. with love, Kara, Rod, Seumas & Niall xx

Although its devistating news to hear a mentor of mine has passed. He has been the corner stone of the Argyll regiment and P&D for me. I wish him everlasting piece where he is now. DMaj Ben Jaeckle

I always enjoyed spending time with Jim, his mischievous nature and comments always resulted in some good natured chiding back and forth; and of course I could never get enough stories out of him about my dad, Erieau, the Erieau Yacht Club, and his life in the service. There were maybe one or two too many times I ended up popping by for a few drinks and some EYC advice but who can blame me, he was wise counsel! Our hearts are with Ruth in this difficult time and we send our sincere condolences.

Ruth & family, sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. Jim was very kind, such a nice guy, with so many great stories.

Rest in Peace Uncle Jim. Thank you for all the amazing memories.

My condolences to Ruth and family. Going to miss my visits with you both. Jim was an amazing man, always there to help others.

Jim was such a big part of our lives at Erieau and was always a pleasure to be with. Whether providing parts for a Lark, raising the signal flags for an EYC function or just enjoying light-hearted banter we could always count on Jim being there. He'll be missed, but his memory will live on. Our sincere condolences, Tim and Kasi Bresnahan

Ruth, Kathy and family, Word's come with sincere difficulty at this time of Jim's passing. He was a true gentleman, great friend and mentor who we shall truly miss. May fair winds and calm seas be with him on his final journey. RIP Jim. Sincerely, Pat and Barry.

I met Jim in June of this year and immediately loved his smile, positive attitude, joke and stories. It was delightful to spend time with him. He came to the awards ceremony to support Ruth who was receiving an award recognizing her volunteer service. He had been working in the yard repairing the lawn that day. I expressed my amazement and he replied “It had to be done and who else is going to do it?” He was truly a wonderful person and supportive husband.

Ruth you and Jim provided outstanding service to your country and your community. We have been fortunate to be a small part of that service to the community and the world through Rotary. Thank you for sharing Jim with us over the last 30 plus years, what wonderful memories. I enjoyed a wonderful visit with him on his Birthday, and I will always remember Jim’s birthday as it is same date as my daughters, just a few years difference. You take a deep breath and take good care of Ruth, and we will all be keeping Jim’s memories alive, each in our way. Don & Nancy

Our most sincere and deepest condolences to the family of Jim Stokes. He was always an interesting and pleasant gentleman to talk to and he will be missed by many.

For thee last 20 years, Jim fought many health battles and managed to overcome most of them. This last one was just too much. Jim spent a lot of time at my "shop" in the summer and on our porch in the winter. I learned a great deal about the Cold War and him receiving hostile fire while on the Berlin wall. He was also most interested in talking to other war veterans who had faced combat looking especially of the details of their battles. The military was his life even in retirement. His many medals and commendations are a testament to that fact. He had many visits from active members of the Essex and Kent Scottish regiment and other regiments including commanding officers and rank and file members. Jim was a great friend with a lot of life knowledge. I really enjoyed my time with him and Ruth. His legacy is that he lived respected and died regretted. I will miss you dearly my friend.

Dear Ruth , you and Jim were role models for me over more than three decades since I joined the Order of St. Lazarus. I remember his contributions to the order both at the Commandery and the National level, but his welcoming me and my wife as new members was wonderful. He was both a friend and mentor. You have my sincere condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Peter roe

Jim was a wonderful leader and a very important supporter of numerous community organizations. Patti and I send love to the family. Regrettable we are away on vacation and will not be back in time for the service. God Bless the family. RIP my fellow veteran!

Sincere condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with yous.🙏

Dear Ruth and family, The Knights, Dames, Members and Friends of The Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem Grand Priory in Canada join me in sending sincere condolences on Jim's passing. He was a role model for us all and his wisdom will be sorely missed. We will remember him and be praying for you as navigate the waters of grief and the shoals of sorrow in the coming months. Our prayers are with you.

What a wonderful and kind man - always thinking of others. I feel fortunate to have known Jim for over 30 years through our common Blenheim Rotary Club connection. The "Colonel" as I liked to call him was full of stories, welcoming to anyone and everyone and always available to make time to chat. We shared a number of scotch drinks (single malt) over the years - always accompanied with rich and enjoyable conversations. Jim was also a very positive thinker in seeing the best in everyone.
