Stephen Wayne Cutler of Chatham, passed away at home with his love, Marion (Voets) Smith, by his side on Monday, January 17, 2022.  Born 67 years ago, son of the late Margaret & Arthur “Bud” Cutler, and predeceased by mother Mary.  Steve is survived by his sister Joanne Lewinsky (Ed), and his brothers David Cutler (Debi), and Jeff Cutler (Fernanda Matos).  In 2004, when he and Marion became a couple, Steve’s family grew to include four children, Greg Calhoun (Stephanie), Nastasha Lovell (Dwayne), Sean Calhoun (Kylie), and Terra Hamilton (Kervin), and several grandchildren.  He will be missed by many nieces and nephews and by the entire Voets clan who claimed him as their own.

The old proverbial sayings “don’t let the grass grow under your feet” and “don’t delay in seizing an opportunity” sum up the way Steve lived his life.  He had a long list of accomplishments and successes of which he was very proud.  He was determined, strong-willed, complimentary with a hint of sarcasm, and a hard worker; all traits that he was admired for.  He was an operating engineer by trade and most recently worked as a pipeline inspector for Enbridge.  He held other positions in his life, including high profile security that he took great pride in.  Steve enjoyed competing in marksmanship events and training others.  He was a giving person, who in 1995 joined Community Partners in Progress, a group of local citizens who made mission trips to Rwanda during a time of crisis.  He had his pilot’s license and loved flying his own plane.  That is how he met the love of his life, Marion, who shared the same passion.  He loved her with all his heart and enjoyed spoiling her every chance he got.

In his recent years, Steve enjoyed travelling as often as he could with Marion to their condo in Florida.  He made many new friends there, and when travel became curtailed, he made Mamma Maria’s in Chatham his new Florida.

Cremation has taken place.  Friends wishing to visit with Steve’s family are invited to the Blenheim Community Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 – 9 p.m.  Due to current COVID restrictions, friends wishing to attend the visitation are asked to contact the Funeral Home for a scheduled time.  Masks must be worn inside the building.  A private funeral service conducted by Pastor Tim Joyce will be held on Monday January 24, 2022.  Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions to a charity he supported, Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, would be appreciated by the family.

Condolences

My sincerest condolences to Marion and Steve’s family. Working as a surveyor at Union Gas from Dawn I had the pleasure to work with him on many pipeline projects. My favourite was probably the summer he did a lot of work through Dover Township with Aecon’s incredible crew. He was meticulous as an inspector and we worked together really well. I enjoyed his sense of humour and found him thoughtful and generous.

My deepest sympathy on the loss of Steve. I had the privilege of meeting him many years ago and always enjoyed chatting with him when out paths would cross. He will be missed by all who knew him.. Thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of healing

Want to send our heart-felt prayers and well wishes to Marion and the rest of the family. Steve was a stand up guy and straight shooter. We've miss Marion and Steve ever since they moved out of the building here at 150 Mary. Be blessed and rest in peace Steve.

My deepest sympathies to the family. Steve was a wonderful kind soul. Many years ago I mentioned to Steve that my daughter and I would be in Florida for vacation. He was so kind that he picked us up at the airport and offered to tour us around St.Petes beach. Well we did get the royal tour and I will never forget this kind gesture and the kind of man Steve was to the world. May you rest in peace Steve and I hope heaven is filled with many Florida days for you to enjoy.

Sending our condolences to you and the family Marian. With deepest sympathy.

Prayers and Condolences to the entire family. Steve indeed had a wonderful soul and challenged everyone around him to be better to each other no matter what was ahead of us with work and always managed to make you laugh and remember life wasn't just about the work, but how we get through it. Wonderful memories from a kind and good man.

Marion & Family, So sorry for your loss. I only knew Steve as a Pipeline Inspector but in that field Steve received the highest honour, the remark that "he was a good guy" says it all. Respectfully, Bob Copeland

I would like to give my deepest condolences to Marion Smith and family. I have know Steve Cutler for over 25 years. He was one of my very first client after I started my hairstyling career. He sat in my chair and said I just lost my hairstylist and you will be my new one. Then told me I don’t care if you give me a good haircut or a bad one you are stuck with me for the rest my our lives. He was right no matter where I went he followed me to every spot never let anyone else cut his hair except when he was in Florida. When he got back he always asked to please fix his hair. We always had lots to talk about and alway chatted about Marion very proudly, even when he would nod off getting his haircut every time. He introduced me to Marion Smith and I have been doing her hair too, actually I just did it one Saturday. Steve’s passing came as a big surprise I am very sad you will be missed my friend. I am so so sorry for your loss. 🥺😢😭🙏🏻🙏🏻

Marion and family - we are so sorry for your loss. Steve was a wonderful role model and mentor for so many people and I really enjoyed my time with him over the years. He got me started on flying many years ago and we had a lot of fun in the shooting sports. Cherish your memories and know that you have our thoughts and prayers.

Marion, so shocked and saddened to hear of Steve's sudden passing. In our frequent run ins on the job your name would invariably come up. His thoughts never strayed far from you and yours. Steve was always a professional in the time I've known him since starting on his pipeline career. Well respected by all as he always had time to help all who asked, including me. He also had the ability to talk to anyone and everyone, including during down time at coffee or lunch. When we left Burn's in Dresden a lady in the corner thanked Steve for the show during her meal. He had a tendency to tease the girls at the restaurant somewhat! :) He will be missed by all fortunate to have spent time with him Marion.

Marion and family, I am sooo sorry for your loss! I considered Steve a fantastic mentor and Friend. He also gave great advice on the best restaurants in whatever area I was working in. Lol! He will be sadly missed!!

Marion, Our deepest sympathy. I am so sorry for your loss. Steve was such a great man, I will never forget him. So many years I flew his airplane and he was so good to me. I will miss him.

Marion, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. There are no words but may you find solace in your many years of fond memories. Take care of yourself. Deb

To the Voets Family, I had the pleasure of working with Steve several years ago at the old Windsor Casting Plant in Windsor. Steve was a kind, unique individual with a quick wit who left an indelible impression on everyone he met. He was very smart and hardworking and taught me allot about handling difficult situations with humour and grace. I have not seen Steve for several years but will never forget him. He will be missed, my condolences to his family and friends.
