Nettie Apthorp of Blenheim passed away surrounded by the love of her family at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Monday July 29, 2024.  Born in Fargo 83 years ago to the late Mildred & William Tye, she married the love of her life Dan Apthorp on April 4, 1964 and began a journey that would span over 60 years.  Together they raised three children; Mike Apthorp (Lisa), Lori Jones (Ron) and Jason Apthorp (Rachel).  Their blessings grew with the addition of three grandchildren Megan, Cassie (Cameron) and Ronni Jones.  Nettie will be missed by her sisters Dona Holling (Bill) and Joyce Clark (John), her sister-in-law Mary Lou Tye (late Jim) and by her chosen daughter Heather.   She will also be missed by Ken Apthorp, Wendy Apthorp and many nieces and nephews.

Nettie was a kind and wonderful lady who was cherished and loved by all.  She will be remembered fondly by all her family and friends for her gift of hospitality, always sending cards or just checking in with a phone call to let you know he had been thinking about you.  She was a lady who put others before herself.

Nettie could be found frequently sharing in her ministry by serving, not only with her church family, but also the community.  You would typically find her in the church kitchen, helping to prepare meals or luncheons for a variety of different functions.  As well, you could find her at home in her own kitchen preparing pies, cookies or even simple chocolates for Christmas.  Nettie was a lady who loved to bake and share with all.  If she wasn’t found in the kitchen at church, you could always find her in the lobby, welcoming all her church friends and family on Sunday mornings.

Nettie’s love for young children was evident through the many years she spent teaching Sunday School and caring for infants in the nursery.  She also took care of children in her own home for various families throughout Blenheim.  If she wasn’t at home or church, you could find Nettie at the Blenheim Community Senior Center doing whatever was needed of her.

If you had the chance to know Nettie, you would have understood that her life was fulfilled by serving her friends and family, just as Jesus Christ had shown her through his own examples during his time here on earth.

Visitation will be held at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 p.m. A funeral service for Nettie will be held in Glad Tidings Community Church on Friday August 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. (visitation will take place from 10 – 11 a.m.)   Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.  Friends wishing to remember Nettie with a memorial donation are asked to consider Glad Tidings Community Church.

Shirley Louise Smith passed away peacefully at Streamway Villa, Cobourg on Friday July 26, 2024 in her 94^th year.  She was a loving aunt and great aunt.  She was predeceased by her parents Vernon and Mary Smith as well as her brother Clare Smith.  A graveside service for Shirley, her brother Clare and her sister in law Elva will be held in Evergreen Cemetery on Tuesday July 30, 2024 at 1:30 p.m.

Surrounded by his wife Helen and family, Harold Moir passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 23^rd in his 81^st year.

He will be reunited with his parents Harold George Moir & Jean Somerville (John McLean) and his siblings Michael Moir (Darlene), Sandra Caughy and Darrell McLean.  He is cherished by his surviving siblings Lillian Emmerson (Ken), Deb Kuhn (Joe), Barb Durk (Steve), Hughie Moir (Jill) and Marie Landry (Ed).

Harold was the cherished father of Ricky Moir (Arlene), Kelly Dixon (Frank), Randy Moir (Lisa), Tammy Moir (Shawn) and Cindy Fisher-Moir, and “Papa” to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He enjoyed a very fulfilling career as a Millwright (Local 1244), had a huge passion for antique cars, car shows and 50’s – 60’s music.  He loved watching Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs games.

It was Harold’s wish that his family remember him privately.

Loving mother of Elena Stoehr-Yeo.  Loving sister of Melissa Stoehr and Jordan Zimmerman.  Loving aunt of Ryker Stoehr.  Loving daughter of the late Tawnya Stoehr-Stevens.  Granddaughter of Albert and Joanne Brown, the late Wayne Stoehr and Debra Stoehr.  Loving niece of Trina Hrdlicka, Scott Brown, Brian and Tammy Brown aw well as many other distant aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jessica passed away suddenly in a motor vehicle accident in Valley View, Alberta, just months after her thirtieth birthday.  Jessica always had the biggest, most contagious smile on her face!  She was an amazing mother and friend.  Jessica also loved her daughter more than anything in this world!  No matter what Jessica was going through or faced, Elena was always the first thought in her mind and she loved her unconditionally.  Jessica also loved her kitty cats and they always brought her comfort when she was sad.

Jessica loved being anywhere near the beach or any running water as it brought her peace and tranquility.  She was also an avid gamer and could be found playing video games in her free time, as well as spending time with friends and family.  Jessica spent the last seven years living in Alberta, but was born in London, Ontario.  We all know Jessica as being a very loving but stubborn lady who always had your back and could definitely make you laugh.

Cremation has taken place.  Jessica’s family will be hosting a Celebration of Life in the very near future which will be posted on Facebook through her sisters, with interment to follow at a later date.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joyce Ellen Bliss at Brantford General Hospital on June 29, 2024.

Joyce is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Elwyn Bliss.

Grandmother to:  Drew, Erica (Mike), Karla (Stu), Dan (Alexandra) and Bianca (Shawn).

Sister to Anne (the late Bob) and Sister-in-law to Corienne (the late Gary) and Connie (the late Galen).

Predeceased by Brothers:  Gerald (the late Priscilla), Donald (the late Eileen), Lester (the late Judy), Graydon (Wendy).

Joyce’s loving and determined attitude will be greatly missed by innumerable brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Over 100 kids had the privilege to call Joyce “Mommy Bliss” and spent their preschool and after school hours with her.  Many kids learned to count by helping her count the cups of flour going into the bread or bun recipe.

Joyce was very active in the Blenheim United Church for many years.  She also      co- ordinated and organized the Christmas Basket Program for the Blenheim Ministerial Association for 23 years.

Our family is grateful for the support received from friends and family during this time.  We are also very thankful for the care that our mother received at the Brantford Hospital, especially from the nursing staff on the 7^th floor palliative care unit.

A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home on Monday July 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.  Following the interment in Evergreen Cemetery, a reception will be held at the Blenheim Legion.

It is with profound sadness that the family of Robert Howe, affectionately known as “Pickle Bob” announces his passing on Friday June 28, 2024 at the age of 76 years.  He was predeceased by his wife of almost 50 years, Betty Ann (Shaw) in December of 2022.

Bob will be missed by his children Mark (Vicki), Donald (Betty-Anne) and Michael, by his grandchildren Dennis, Wendy (Jared), and Paulie (Al), great grandchildren Joan, Bryce, Braydon, Gracie and Crystal and his great-great grandchildren Amaya and Nevaeh.  He is survived by his brother Larry and his sisters Mary Lou Houston and Dianne Johnson (William).  He will be remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Bob was a long-time resident of Wallaceburg and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Chatham whose members he considered to be his second family.

A private family service will be held.  Bob will be laid to rest with Betty Ann.

It is with profound sadness that the Houweling family announces the passing of their mother Johanna Houweling who passed away at the Blenheim Community Village on Wednesday June 26, 2024 at the age of 88.  Johanna was the loving wife of the late Peter Houweling (2002) and the late Cor Bakker (2012).   Loving mother of the late Anthony Houweling, Rick (Pam) Houweling, Ken Houweling, Rob (Sandra) Houweling, Carol (Terry) Pepper, late Don (surviving Madeline) Houweling, Lisa (Dave) Robert, Chris (Melissa) Houweling, and Peter (Angele) Houweling.  Johanna was the loving and spoiling grandmother of many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.  Daughter of the late John and Gradda Onland and sister of many siblings.  Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Johanna will be remembered by her loving gentle spirit towards her family, raising 9 children, meeting the needs of others through her wonderful cooking, canning, sewing, knitting, crocheting and enjoying her many trips to see family in Holland.  A funeral service will be held at the Blenheim Christian Reformed Church on Friday June 28, 2024 at 11:00am with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment at Evergreen Cemetery to follow the service.  Donations made in memory of Johanna to the Blenheim Medical Health Hub or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.  Online Condolences may be left at www.blenheimcommunityfuneralhome.com

Tze Hung was the wife of the late Chiu Lit Cheung. Loving mother of Yuen Ho Cheung (Ma Suk Chun), Joyce Cheung (Chris Yip), Aishah Cheung (Nezam Alli), and Yonie Cheung (Ron Harding). Tze Hung was the loving grandmother of Nadia Abdulrahim, Ahmed Abdulrahim, Noorah Abdulrahim, Natalie Harding (Aidan Fehr), Felix Yip, Bryan Yip (Melanie Crume), and four great grandchildren. Tze Hung was a devoted mother who enjoyed taking care of her family throughout her whole life. She enjoyed gardening and making special meals for her children. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jim Langford who entered into rest at home on Tuesday June 11, 2024 at the age of 53. He will be dearly missed by his loving companion Kelly Longley, his father John (Marlene Fields) Langford and the late Clara Ann ‘Chy’ (nee Deacon) Langford. He was the brother of Tracy (Steve) Paton and uncle to their children Leah and Sean. He will be fondly remembered by his step siblings and their families, Rhonda (Ian) Rumble and their children, Klare, Drew and Grace, Jeremy Fields (Hayley), Brandon Fields (Cassandra) and their son Jack, Quinn (Serene) Rumble, Abbey Tramble and her daughter Kamaya, and Ethan Rumble. Jim leaves behind his good friend Cheryl Maitland, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Predeceased by grandparents Charles and Edith Langford and Joseph and Hannah Deacon. Jim was a simple fun loving guy with a great sense of humour and he spent many years as a truck driver and enjoying the open road. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at the Arkona Cemetery, 8628 Townsend Line in Arkona on Saturday June 22, 2024 at 11am followed by refreshments and a reception at the Arkona Fairways Golf Club, 8562 Townsend Line in Arkona. The carpenter.  He begins work early, and he works late.  He looks at his plan, and he creates.  He is an artist, shaping his material into a masterpiece.  This masterpiece is a house.  Even better…a home.  He is driven by the smell of fresh wood.  He commands the tools in his hand to work with him to create something special.  Something strong, that will last.  He creates structures that will house newly married couples, sleeping babies, rambunctious children, holiday celebrations, rowdy teenagers and cozy winter nights.  He surveys his masterpieces year after year, wondering how his creations are holding up, always remembering his work.  It gives a carpenter great satisfaction to drive through the countryside admiring his creations, knowing he contributed to the development of his community.   Loving his legacy in the most humble way.

On Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at the age of 86, we lost our patriarch, a former local carpenter, Raymond Lawrence (AKA Larry, Snard) Throsel, a resident of Erie Beach.  He was the son of the late William and Ivabel Throsel.  Larry was supported throughout his life by his ever devoted wife Maxine Throsel, who was not only his partner, but his strength and weapon to battle any health issues that arose.  He was the loving father of five children, Darryl (Penny) Throsel, Dave (Terri) Throsel, Darlene (Chuck) Lactin, Dennis Throsel and Denise Throsel.  He was a proud and caring grandpa of Devon (Emily), Nathan, Jayme (Nathaniel), Jarred, Matthew, Aidan, Jordan and Kailyn.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law Betty Throsel and many extended family members, whom he cherished.

Larry was preceded in death by his brother Bob Throsel, by his sister Betty (Wib) Brown, and by his infant grandson Andrew.

Larry was a master carpenter, working with his father and brother to build many homes in and around the Blenheim area.  He also owned the Wash It carwash on highway 3 for several years.

Though some people may have considered him a quiet soul, he could stun with his quick witted humour and ability to come up with the best one-liners at just the right time!  His reassuring presence, his cheeky grin and his twinkling eyes will be sorely missed at family gatherings.

Cremation has taken place, with a Celebration of Life to follow at a later date in the summer.
