Hélène passed away peacefully on July 18, 2023. She was a feisty and vibrant woman who defied the survival odds of cancer, for which her family is grateful.

As a nurse at the Chatham hospital for many years, Hélène was truly dedicated to helping others and providing kind and compassionate care to people who needed it most. After she retired, her interest in medical and nursing issues remained front and centre. Hélène was passionate about animals, often going above and beyond to care for them, as well as tending to her beautiful garden.  Hélène also delighted in buying special treats for her grandkids to enjoy, as well as for family and other visitors.

We, Hélène’s stepchildren, are deeply appreciative of the almost 20 years she spent in our lives as the partner and second wife to our father, Clark, as well as grandma to our kids. Hélène is survived by her stepchildren Erin (Paul), Kathleen, Charlene (Aaron), Kristena (Ryan), and Thomas (Stephanie), as well as her step grandchildren, Claire, Blythe, Violet, Austin, Beau, Katie, and Tyler; sister Denyse, and brother Gilles. She is predeceased by her first husband, Denis Copeland (2001), and her second husband, Clark Mifflin (2023).

Nous t’aimons toujours Hélène! Memorial donations may be made to the Chatham-Kent hospice www.chathamkenthospice.com or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada www.heartandstroke.ca.

Condolences

I had the pleasure of teaching Helene in the Nursing Program in the 80s such a wonderful, witty, caring woman. She will be sadly missed, but certainly remembered forever. So happy to know her!

Helene was a genuine woman who truly demonstrated her love of Nursing and her patients. She made everyone she met or worked with, feel special. Including her colleagues. My condolences to her family.

Helen was one of my nurses on the old 1E at Public General Hospital. It was Helene that was picked to give me the most important news of my life. "Dan, I have some exciting news, London just called and asked to send you up. They have a heart for you" She gave me a pat on the back when I needed and a kick in the pants when it was need it. Rest in peace my friend.

Helene was such an inspiration. Feisty is a good word to describe her! Her energy was contagious. I was priviledged to meet her acquaintance at a bereaved spouse support group after her husband Denis died. We had many heart to hearts and she doted on me, the "Kid" in the group, and my son. And boy, did she make good cheesecake! I was so happy when she and Clark became friends, and married. It was nice to see them both feel love again. I'm so sad to learn of her death. She and Clark will always hold a special place in my heart. Adieu, mon amie.

Tu es trop jeune pour partir! Ça fait un grand vide dans la famille! On va se souvenir de toi longtemps! DE :TANTE JACQUELINE ST-AUBIN ( J'ai 97 ans )

I was so sorry to read of Helene’s passing. I worked with her at the hospital for many years, and later had wonderful chats if we met shopping. She was a very caring and compassionate nurse and a true advocate for her patients. She loved a good laugh and her wit was quick. My sincere condolences to her family and friends. She will be missed by all who Had the pleasure of knowing her. Rest In Peace, Helene

Erin, Kathleen, Charlene, Kristena, Thomas and families So sorry to hear of Helene's passing. She was such a caring and compassionate lady. She will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Elaine and Garry Charlton and Family

My sincere condolences to Helene’s step-children and step-grandchildren. She spoke so fondly of all of you. We often chatted at the greenhouse as she picked out plants for her garden. My path first crossed with Helene when she was a student nurse observing in the delivery room when I had my second son. Thereafter, she always called him “her boy” and had a chance to meet him again many years later. After she graduated, I was one of her early mentors, but I believe she taught me as much as I taught her! We worked together for several years at the hospital and she was an amazing nurse. It was not unusual to find her sitting at the beside of a dying or critically ill patient when her work was done. Rest In Peace my friend! Your work here is done but I believe your caring personality will be remembered forever! Sandra Fysh
