Gwendoline Belle Hitchcock of Guilds passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Friday July 19, 2019.  Gwen was born 97 years ago to the late Robert & Jane “Jennie” Shaw and was the last surviving member of her family having been predeceased by her sisters Betty Ouellette, Bonnie Shaw and Geraldine Shaw as well as her brother Robert Shaw.

Gwen and her husband Bruce Raymond Hitchcock (1992) farmed for many years in Guilds.  They raised three children; Geri McPherson of Guilds, Jack & Katherine Hitchcock of Rondeau and Don Hitchcock of Guilds.  She was the proud grandmother of Alicia & Jarrod Kemp, Wyatt Hitchcock, Danielle & Scott Parker, Leah Guyitt, Julie Guyitt, great-grandmother of Dylan, Darrell, Laci and Livia Coll, Alexia Huffman Guyitt, MacKenzie and Leland Parker, and Isabel Kemp as well as the great-great-grandmother of Nash Beecroft Coll.  She is also survived by her sister in law Ann Hubbard Johnson.  Gwen is now reunited in heaven with her great granddaughters Amelia Ann and Christina Emily.

Gwen worked at the Sara Johnson Residence in Guilds prior to her retirement and was a lifetime member of New Scotland United Church.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will take place at a later date.

Friends wishing to remember Gwen with a memorial donation are asked to consider the New Scotland United Church.

Geri, Donnie & Jack. My sincere condolences , so sorry to hear of the passing of such a wonderful, loving lady. She was always there to help whomever and loved by all. . Remember those summers many years ago on the farm when she would be calling for us for lunch or supper. Many thoughts and prayers. Linda Kyle-Jansen

Sorry to hear of Gwen's passing. She was always a bundle of energy and added an element of mischief at work in the Nursing Home at Guilds. She will be missed .

Dear Geri, Don, Jack & families Aunt Gwen was such a fun, loving, caring Aunt who will be missed by all who loved her. She lived life to the fullest and I will treasure fondly many memories of her. I couldn't help but think how happy Aunt Gwen is, to be reunited with Uncle Bruce and her siblings Aunt Betty and my dad as well as other family members who passed away so long ago. so sorry for the loss of your mom. I remember working with her at the nursing home in Guilds with many fond memories. She taught me a lot and was always fun to work with.
