Bob Eskritt

A photo of Bob Eskritt

In the early morning hours of Thursday April 8th our dad, Bob Eskritt passed away in his 90th year.  He was the first born to his parents Ellen & Luke Eskritt and is survived by his sister Mary Ellen Greenway.  He was predeceased by his sister Donna Johnson and his brother Albert.

Dad was raised on the family farm just outside of Ridgetown.  He attended S.S.#8 Beechwood School and Ridgetown District High School.  As a young man, he joined Junior Farmers where he met our mom Beth (Simpson).  One of his proudest times in life was to realize that the life he began with Mom would one day become a family of fifty-five.  He will be remembered with full hearts by Al & Shelley Ripley-Bulckaert, Jennifer Verwegen, Roberta & Gaetan Morin, Marc & Gail Eskritt, Barb & Denis Bourbonnais, Marvin & Kim Eskritt and Michael Verwegen.  He was affectionately known as Grandpa Bob to Wendy & Henry, Jason & Erika, Lauren, Jordan & Stephanie, Alexandra, Natalie & Mitch, J.P. & Cristina, Chantal & Kevin, Lynn & Rachel, Darrell & Anna, Makaila, Christian & Tristen, Jacob, Noah and 18 great-grandchildren.  He was sad when he lost two of the girls he loved most in life; our Mom and our sister Beverley Bulckaert and again when he lost his grandson Joel Verwegen.

In every man’s life there comes a time when he takes stock of where he is and what he has accomplished.  Dad should have been proud.  He taught us well.  He worked hard as a dairy farmer for many years.  He always lent a helping hand, especially when it was harvest time and the neighbours needed help.  He took care of the things that he owned so that they would last, and he always remained humble and kind.

In keeping with Dad’s wishes and ours, he will be laid to rest with our Mom and we will celebrate his life in June when he would have turned 90.

For those who wish to remember him with a memorial donation, we ask that you consider the Junior Farmers Association of Ontario because that’s where Dad got his start or Kids in Crisis https://catalogue.faithhopeinaction.ca/gifts/causes/compassion/kids-in-crisis/ because he always wanted to help.

Condolences

  • Marc and Gail and family. So sorry to hear of the passing of your father; he sounded like a great man who lived a full and fulfilling life. Thinking of you.
  • It was a pleasure to have known and cared for Bob at the Retirement Home where I worked as a PSW. I will always remember him for his kindness, gentleness, helpfulness and his wonderful family. My condolences to his family.
  • To my extended family.... :) so sad to hear of Uncle Bob's passing. Truly blessed to have spent all those countless hours on your farm enjoying all that was special to him; life on the farm. His quiet and gentle spirit was wonderful to be around; especially when interacting with Aunt Beth. Comforting to know their souls are reconnected; although i doubt they were ever apart. :) hugs to all.
  • John & I would like to send our deepest condolences to the entire Eskritt Family. Uncle Bob was such a loving, gentle person. Always eager to hear about what was going on in our family. Bev & I were high school friends so I spent time at the farm before I met John. Such a great family, always something fun going on. His passing will leave a great hole in your family, but cherish your memories for they will sustain you in this difficult time.
Know you are in our thought & prayers.
    John & Sonia Simpson
  • Ian and Elaine share your pain of loss but also remember all of the fun times your Mom and Dad, Aunt Fern and Uncle Alex and all us kids enjoyed together. We all spent many happy hours playing on the beach and swimming at Rest-A-Bout or running around and playing on the farm. And the best part of going to Aunt Beth’s and Uncle Bob’s were the treats and meals we all enjoyed together. Ian has been grateful for growing up and being provided with help and guidance by Uncle Bob and Aunt Beth throughout his entire life. Alex, and Ian to a lesser extent, in our younger years became summer farm hands instead of city slickers, thanks to Uncle Bob. Because of our farm experience, we had a far greater appreciation of farming and nature than we otherwise would have had. We are grateful too for the time Uncle Bob spent with Alex in more recent years when Alex was living in Ridgetown. Uncle Bob will be greatly missed by everyone who ever came in contact with him simply due to his friendly, caring, helpful nature. We all look forward to the day when we can be physically together again to share the memories and the hugs. Love to All, Ian and Elaine.
