Bertha Jean Case, November 14, 1947 to December 14, 2024 passed peacefully at home with her husband at her side in the early morning hours of the 14th.

Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who will be forever loved and remembered for eternity by her husband Brian Case and all the family.  Bertha is also survived by her children Brent (Dana) Case and Brooke Case, by her grandchildren Avery (Jaymes) Brophy, Cohen Case, Mitchel Bellamy, Marshal Bellamy and great grandchildren Brooks Brophy, Cam Bellamy, and Crue Bellamy.

Bertha is also survived by her brothers Jim (Janice) Fulkerson and Mark (Gail) Fulkerson.  Bertha was predeceased by her parents Albert “Bud” (2003) and Audrey (2009) Fulkerson and her sister Susie Attewell (2020).  She is also predeceased by her in laws Doug (2006) and Rita (2016) Case and a sister in law Dianne (2011).

From Her Children:

She was the matriarch of our family.  And so difficult to sum up what she meant to us.  She was who we went to for advice, to confide in, to laugh with.  She always had a guiding hand in our life, from how we parented our own children to our grandchildren.  Mom’s ability to show love, compassion and forgiveness was unparalleled.  She was a fierce protector of us as well as her grandchildren.  Her imprint is forever etched with us.  Mom will be forever missed, forever loved, forever remembered.  We love you Mom, Always.

Bertha was loved by all who knew her and her affection for her friends was mutual.  Those friends had a spark of light in their life that went out with her passing.

The luckiest day of my life, speaking as her husband was Friday December 13th, 1968 when I asked her to marry me and she said yes.  Bertha was a small town girl form Erieau who married a small town boy from Byron, who at the time was living and working in Toronto.  This was the start of our journey that lasted for over 55 years, covered jobs and careers, raising a family, travel to various part of the world, most of Canada and several states in the U.S.  The memories of the travel were always fond but her most favorite spot was Bermuda.

Visitation for Bertha will take place at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home on Saturday January 11, 2025 from 10:00 – 1:00.  A funeral service will be held at 1:00 and will be followed by a reception at St. Paul’s Church in Erieau.

For those wishing to remember Bertha, donations can be made to St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Erieau, the Erieau Fireman’s Association or the Chatham-Kent Hospice.

Condolences

  • My sincere condolences to all of the Case family from out here in BC. Aunt Bertha was always a pleasant, happy and generous soul during my summer holidays in Erieau as kid. I have fond memories of hanging out at Aunt Bertha's house and getting my hair cut by her. Although I haven't seen you all in a while you are always in my thoughts and heart. She will be missed.
  • Brian and all the family, from Barb & Des:
We offer our deepest sympathies. We met Brian and Bertha once during their visit at Mark and Gail's place in Dundurn, SK. We had a real great time. She definitely gave the impression that Bertha touched positively everyone she met. Be strong in these very hard times. Our thoughts are with you.
  • While growing up in Erieau, the Fulkerson Family was a constant in my life being made so welcome in their home by Bud and Audrey, and all the family including one of my lifelong friends Jim, his sisters Susie and Bertha, and brother Mark. In such a closeness community it was natural to develop and cultivate relationships that last forever. It is with heavy heart that I learned of Bertha's death which brought back sweet memories of her marriage to Brian and the early years of their children growing up. Erieau will always be my go to place where the ERIEAU BOYS and couples got together. It will be a special day of remembrance at Bertha's funeral in Blenheim and the reception later in the Erieau church so special for Brian and her.
  • Dear Brian and family:
On behalf of your former neighbour, Lela Wells, our family sends our sincere sympathy to you and your family. Bertha was a wonderful, kind lady, always looking out for our Mom. How they enjoyed their visits in Mom’s outdoor living room -the garage! Bertha was truly a gem. Keeping the family in our thoughts and prayers.
    - Lela Wells and family

  • It is with a very heavy heart we say goodbye to our dear sister and sister-in-law Bertha. Although we lived miles away we were never miles apart in our affection and relationship, as we grew up and raised our families, our times spent together were always filled with a good chuckle and memories and tales of family occasions. Our treasured memories will be of a loving wife, Mother, Grandmother and recently great Grandmother, sister and friend.
Brian was a wonderful, caring husband who lovingly cared for Bertha during their journey together. Brent and Brooke were a special gift to Bertha as children and then adults, she had great pride in their successful lives and her grandchildren. We will sorely miss Bertha, but are grateful to have memories to sustain us over time. God's speed Dear Bertha. Love Jim and Jan
