I remember reading a statistic that said our odds of being affected by cancer in some way, be it a relative, a friend, a neighbor or even ourselves are greater than not…and I believe that. It has affected my own family. I also believe that as a society we have made some great strides in the ways that we can fight back. This year, the Blenheim Community will again have the opportunity to celebrate, remember and fight back by participating in the seventh annual Community Relay For Life which will be held at the Blenheim District High School track from Friday June 6 at 7 p.m. until Saturday June 7 at 7 a.m. Relay For Life is a non-competitive, overnight event where people take turns walking around the track to raise funds to make cancer history. The track will be lined with lighted luminaries; each luminary bearing the name of a person being honoured or remembered. Last year there were 717 luminaries, 300 participants and 42 survivors participating in Relay For Life Blenheim. The event raised almost $84,000.00 for cancer research and community services. The Blenheim Community Funeral Home is again honoured to be the Relay For Life “Luminary Sponsor”. This years Chair for the Relay For Life, Blenheim is Donna Musyj. I know that she and all of the awesome volunteers have been working very hard to make this year another successful one. And so on Friday June 6th, even if you don’t have a team, come on out to applaud the survivors and take a walk around the track to see all of the luminaries after they’ve been lit. It’s a walk that will move you; one that you will remember for a long time.
