2014-02-26 What Makes Us Different: Week 2

Week Two of What I Think Makes Us Different:

When you make funeral arrangements at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home, I promise that I won’t try to sell you something that you don’t need or want.  There is no pressure.  Did you know that there is no requirement to buy an urn when you choose cremation but that it’s totally your choice?  The black plastic container that holds the cremated remains is fine for interring.  Actually two of those containers will fit perfectly in a single niche in the new columbariums that were constructed in the cemeteries.

I will allow you to charge flowers and luncheons on your funeral account so you don’t have to run around paying for everything while you are trying to make so many other decisions and make sense out of what just happened.  After the funeral I will personally visit you and take care of all the paperwork that needs to be done.  I will not pass you on to another person because I want to see you through from the beginning to the end.  I will complete and forward the applications for the $2500.00 lump sum death benefit, CPP spousal benefits and survivor benefits for children if you qualify, I will return all of the government identifications such as a driver’s license, health card, passport and social insurance number.  There is no additional charge for this “after care” service.   I will provide you with all of the Proofs of Death that you will need to settle an estate…even if you run out there is no charge for extras.

For the time that you are here, this home is your home and you are my boss.  The fridge is stocked with pop and water for you and your friends, and there is always coffee and tea on as well.  We provide a fruit tray on the day of visitation and sometimes friends bring food to share as well, because that’s just what communities do.
