April is just around the corner…and that means it is time for Cancer Awareness Month. The odds of any of us being affected in some way by cancer are greater than not. Each year money is raised to help the Canadian Cancer Society whose mission it is to fund all types of cancer research, advocate for healthy public policy and cancer prevention, to promote healthy lifestyles and strategies for reducing cancer risk, to provide comprehensive information on cancer, its treatment and risk reduction and support people living with cancer. One of the ways we raise money locally is through the Blenheim Community Relay For Life which is a unique 12 hour overnight community event which involves teams of 10 people who participate in a non-competitive relay. Participants of all ages take turns walking, running or strolling around a track. Teams consist of families, friends, neighbours or co-workers. Teams pitch tents that are often decorated according to a theme. It’s fun, uplifting and magical! This year’s event will be held on June 1st from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. at the Blenheim District High School. The sponsors for the 2012 Blenheim Community Relay For Life include:
