Becuase it's Ric, dress will be casual!

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Richard ‘Ric’ McArthur who left us peacefully surrounded by family.

Ric will be forever remembered by his wife Anne, his two sons Stephen (Heather) and Brian (Angela), and his grandchildren Quinn, Chloe and Lucas.  He is also survived by his sister Jaquie and many nieces and nephews.

Ric lived a life filled with curiosity, kindness and quiet appreciation for the natural world.  An avid birder and photographer, he spent countless hours capturing the beauty of the world around him – in Rondeau Provincial Park and around the globe.  His memory lives on in the photographs he took and the hearts of those who loved him.

An Open House in Remembrance of Ric will be held at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home on Sunday October 19 from 2 pm until 4 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Friends of Rondeau Park https://rondeauprovincialpark.ca/donate/  or a charity of your choice.  And, of course, because it’s Ric, dress will be casual!

Condolences

  • I stood in the woods of Rondeau when I was a boy. Filled with excitement and curiosity for what I could see. For years now I’ve opened “Rondeau Ric’s” blog for a reminder of that joy. His photos and relatable humour always cleared my cloudy mind. I will miss his gift. Anne, Brian, and Steve, sending you peaceful thoughts and mutual admiration in remembrance of Ric.
  • Sorry for your loss Anne and family. Prayers and love.

  • Sad to hear of Ricks passing.
We spoke many times at the waterfowl office in Rondeau Park and I always enjoyed our conversations. Rick had a wit about him that usually gave me a chuckle.
Our condolences to Ann and family.

  • I did not know him as well as i new his work. I appreciated his photos and discriptions of them. I hope they have a camera store in heaven. Rest in peace.
  • Sorry to hear of Ric's passing. It was always fun to meet up with him along the trails or roadways of the park and enjoy a bit of discussion regarding birding and photography , etc.
  • Dad was so many different things to so many different people.
A birder, a builder, a guide and a mentor. A nature lover, a wood worker, a banker and a friend.

Most of all, he was a husband, a father and a grandfather. We were so lucky to have him in our lives, and he will be missed every day. None of us would be the people we are today without the love and guidance he provided.

    Forever in our hearts,

    Love Brian, Angela and Chloe.
  • Our condolences to Anne and the family. Ric will be remembered whenever we hear a bird singing!
He was a kind man with a wonderful sense of humour. He will be greatly missed. We were lucky to have met you both and wished we didn't live so far away or we would have come to his Open House. Our daughter, Kelly, will be coming on our behalf. Sue and Bob
  • I am so sorry to learn about Ric's passing. He welcomed me to his yard a few years ago to wait for a Townsend's Warbler that he'd seen that week. He was so generous and so wanted all the visitors to see this beautiful bird. He was the best of the birding community.
  • So sorry for the loss of Ric. I knew Ric through the nature photography group. his quiet and calm presence will be missed.
  • So sorry to hear about Ric’s passing. He was a wonderful man and great birder. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
  • Please accept my condolences (and Joe's although I don't have the heart to tell him of Ric's passing) on your loss. It was a privilege to know him and an honour he considered us friends.
