Eric Robert Henderson

June 1, 1958 – October 4, 2020

Eric Henderson passed away quietly, after a courageous cancer battle, on Sunday, October 4th, in Squamish, BC.  He was in caring hospice with his loving and devoted wife Kathleen, and beloved dog Chippy.   He lived life to the fullest and packed loads of adventure into his 62 years.  He was the older son of loving and proud parents, Ann and Robert M. Henderson (1990) of Blenheim.  In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his adoring mother-in-law Agnes Laczina of Vancouver, BC.  He will also be dearly missed by his sister Arlene (Terry) Koehler of Blenheim, and their children Alex, Sarah (Andrew) and Emma (Stafford); brother David (Rebecca) Henderson of Clearwater, FL and their children Hayley and Collin; sister Laura (Pat) Koehler of Blenheim and their children Graydon, Bryar and Greer. He is also survived by his only uncle and aunt, Jack and Donna Rigby of Blenheim and his cousins, Rick, Valerie, Pam, Carolyn and Steve.

Eric attended Blenheim District High School and graduated from the RCAT (University of Guelph) in 1980.  He found his calling in the mountains of Whistler in the early 1980s and grew to become one of the most innovative and well-respected home builders in the area.  The homes he designed and built in Whistler are a legacy of Eric’s quality workmanship.

Eric also had a childhood dream of flying helicopters.  He obtained his pilot’s license while wintering in Hawaii, and then went on to certify in private and commercial, both in Canada and the U.S.  In 2008, Eric, Kathleen and their dog Corky began flying many epic journeys all around North America, touching three oceans, discovering new places, and visiting countless and dear family and friends along the way.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Eric’s life will be held in Blenheim, once Covid-19 restrictions allow.

Memorial donations to the Blenheim Historical Society would be appreciated.

Condolences

My condolences to Kathleen at the loss of Eric. We met in 1980 when Eric made innovative changes to our triplex on Karen Crescent. Our paths would cross from time to time, usually at Rolands . Virginia and I always enjoyed re-meeting a very nice person and great builder. This message is late as I have just read of Eric's 2020 passing in the Pique, but am unable to attend the September 9, 2021 Celebration of Life.

Kathleen, Its with heavy hearts that we send this message. We think of Eric every time we pass thru the front doors of our place in Whistler. With his skill, workmanship and creativity, he transformed it from a tired old shack into a beautiful home. He was an astute gentleman that delivered on his commitments and was an absolute pleasure to work with. While we did not come to know you both as we would have liked due to opposite Whistler schedules we will always hold him near and dear....as we will you too. I hope our paths cross again before long and in the meantime we are sending love, strength and hope. Eric RIP.

Kathleen----we just heard that Eric had passed away. Both of us wrap our arms around you with the tightest hug. Eric was so full of life and we often wondered where he got all of his energy from. You are in our thoughts and all prayers. We are the Sandpiper condo people from Racine, Wisconsin.

I’m shocked and saddened by this news! Kathleen please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything! You and Eric were so wonderful to me when I went through my cancer fights and I’m so sorry I didn’t know and wasn’t there for you! Sending you love 💕 and condolence to you and your entire family. 😢

Dear Kathleen: I just learned of Eric’s passing and we are very sad. Eric not only built our Whistler house 20 years ago but through our projects together, he became my friend. I will miss hearing his voice and our chats over a brew at Rolands. Eric was so genuine - a man of character and integrity. Diane and I loved meeting and visiting with you and Eric. Your love for each other was evident. Eric was so proud of you. Our hearts are heavy for your loss. We will continue to treasure our home as a testament to Eric’s skill and talent. We will keep you in our prayers.

Our sympathy and prayers are with Eric and his family at this time of sorrow. Liz and I have many fond memories of Eric growing up in our neighbourhood. Eric was a bright student, very creative and adventurous, like his father (Bob). Eric visited us after he retired. Eric left his legacy, building luxurious homes in Whistler, B.C., flying helicopters about North America. Eric lived life to the fullest. Rest In Peace Eric.

Ian MacLean (husband) has told me many stories about Eric since their Blenheim days. Although I had only met Eric (and Kathleen) a few times it was obvious he was talented in so many ways. I am so sorry for you losing him. Take comfort in your memories.
