The Giffin family are sad to announce the passing of Donald Ross Giffin, who passed away peacefully at home on the family farm in Blenheim, Ontario, on October 23, 2017.

He was born on May 28, 1950, in Chatham, Ontario, to the late Gerald and Marion (Jackson) Giffin. Beloved husband of Jean (Holland) Giffin for 44 years, loving father of Sheila Giffin and Jason Yee of Blenheim, Janice Giffin of London, Dr. Jennifer Giffin of Halifax, and Diane and Adrian Rivard of St. Adolphe d’Howard, Quebec. Predeceased by his infant daughter Michelle. Proud grandfather of Chesney and Jolyon Giffin Yee, and Nicolas Rivard. Brother to Ruth Anne and Burton McClelland of Peterborough, and uncle to their children David and Beth.

Don graduated from Ridgetown College in the class of 1970 with a diploma in Agricultural Technology. He farmed all his life in Harwich Township and was actively involved in the local community with agriculture, church, and heritage concerns. Don was a member of Blenheim United Church where he sang in the choir for many years. Don has won numerous awards and recognitions for his maple syrup products. He was a World Champion Maple Syrup Producer and judge at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. He loved collecting antique cars and tractors, fishing in Port Loring, and travelling around rural Ontario.

Visitation will be at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home on Thursday, October 26 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Visitation will also be on Friday, October 27 from 9:30-10:30 at Glad Tidings Community Church. Funeral service to follow. Donations can be made to Chatham-Kent Hospice, the Canadian Diabetes Association, or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Dear Jean and Family, Wayne and I are so very sorry to hear about the passing of Don. We know it is a very difficult time for everyone and we just wanted to give our condolences. We couldn't come to the visitation or funeral but I am sure you understand. Our prayers are with you at this time. Don will truly be missed by everyone. Take care of yourself. Wayne and Lynn Clark

I met Don as RCAT grad when on alumni committee and I lived in the Morpeth area until last year and had lunch with him a few times at the restaurant in New Scotland. Sorry to hear of his passing . I was not aware he was ill. My sympathy.

Our sympathy to you Jean and your family in the passing of Don. We always enjoyed our visits with both of you at the maple functions over the years. These are memories that we will always treasure.

I got to know Don as a member of the Stewardship Kent Council and it was there I came to respect and admire Don's enthusiasm and interest in our community. He possessed those traits that make citizens like him stand out and be lauded for their public efforts and involvement. Don's family has much to proud of; not only of his accomplishments, but for being someone, we could all talk and listen to. Thanks Don.

I didn't know Don well or see him all that much, but that never seemed to matter. He'd always strike up a conversation. He was the one that inspired me to try my hand at making maple syrup. Every time I'd see him he'd take a moment to talk maple syrup, or old cars, he was always so friendly. My heartfelt condolences.

I'm so sorry to hear of Don's passing, I knew him very well through the maple industry. He was a very strong advocate for agriculture and maple and will be missed a great deal by all of us.
