Donald Raymond Hitchcock of Guilds passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, August 24, 2025 in Blenheim.

Don was born in Chatham 75 years ago to the late Bruce and Gwendoline Hitchcock, of Guilds. He is predeceased in life by his sister Geraldine McPhearson, survived by his brother Jack Hitchcock (Katherine) and his aunt Catherine Ann Hubbard of Florida.

Don grew up in Guilds, attended The Guilds Schoolhouse, Blenheim District High School as well as Chatham Kent Secondary School,  Fanshawe College in London and St. Clair College for Civil Engineering.  He was a member of The New Scotland United Church.

He is survived by his nieces Leah Coll, Julie Guyitt, Danielle Parker (Scott), Alicia Kemp (Jarrod), nephew Wyatt Hitchcock (Lauren) and several great nieces and nephews.

Don was a long time employee of Southwest Ag and EmCon as a snow plow operator.

Don was an avid outdoorsman. He loved gardening, hunting, fishing, tying flies, bird watching, sailing and wind surfing. He was a very talented nature photographer. He spent many years living in British Columbia and travelling. He resettled back in Guilds later in life.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday August 30, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at the Morpeth Cemetery. Family and Friends are welcome.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Wheeler, Dr. Clendenning and the staff at the Blenheim Nursing Home for their exceptional care of Don as his illness progressed.

Friends wishing to remember Don with a memorial donation are asked to consider the Canadian Cancer Society or The New Scotland United Church.

So many memories of those early years, playing pool at your place, playing hockey on the pond, going fishing, playing softball at school and more. He was always a fairly quiet person and enjoyed nature. My thoughts and prayers are being sent your way!

    We were in the same grade all through school at Guilds. Many memories of spear fishing in the creek with my dad and Don growing up as well as picking tomatoes for your dad and so many community events both at school and at Guilds Church.. A quiet man who loved nature and a great neighbour. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
