Don Maris

A photo of Don Maris

Donald James Maris of Merlin passed away peacefully at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Tuesday March 19, 2024.  Born to the late Watson & Isabella (Pratt) Maris 92 years ago, Don was the last surviving member of his family.  He was predeceased by his siblings Thomas Maris (1922), Oliver Maris (1926), Watson Maris (1931), Margery Keast (1965), William Maris (2011) and Muriel Dale (2017).   He will be remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Don’s working career was spent at Southwestern Regional Centre where he retired as a Residential Supervisor.  He enjoyed real estate speculation and acquiring antique furniture for his home.  He was happy to remain independent and at home.  His wishes for this time were to be cremated and laid to rest with his mother, and that his family and friends remember him on their own.  If you would like to make a memorial donation in memory of him, he would have deemed the Chatham-Kent Hospice a noble cause.

Condolences

To the Maris and Dale families, We send our sincere condolences

To the Maris and Dale families My thoughts and prayers are with you for the loss of your Uncle Don.

We worked with Don at SRC and as well, would often be at the same antique sales. What a kind, gentle man. Our condolences to Don's family.

Our sympathy to the Maris family.....always enjoyed talking flowers with Don

Don was my first ward supervisor when I started working at SRC IN 1970. He was one of the kindest and supportive individuals I have ever known. Throughout my career in the Developmental Disabilities sector Don stood out as an exceptional role model for me. In addition, he was just an all round great guy ! May his memory be a blessing.

Don was my first supervisor when I started at Southwest Regional Centre in 1971. His quiet counsel and management style was a model for me later on in my career at SRC. He was a wonderful person!
