It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my sister, Cathy Lou Crawford.  She was born in Chatham 56 years ago to our late parents Judith & Thomas Crawford, attended school in Blenheim and at St. Clair College in Chatham.  Aside from myself, she is survived by our step brother Doug Peel, our Aunts Carol (Walt) Korpela and Sally Mandeno (Dick McIlroy) as well as our cousins Jeremy Korpela, Wendy Wells, Nicole Segeren, Matthew Mandeno and Nancy Cira.  She was predeceased by our Aunt Marilyn & Uncle Al Latner.

Cathy was a kind and caring soul who loved animals just as much as she loved people.  For many years she worked at the OSPCA in Chatham during the week and on the weekends, she would tend to the farm animals at Southwestern Regional Centre.  She made many good friends during her lifetime and will be remembered by many for her free spirit and bubbly personality.  Unfortunately, health issues interrupted her career in the animal world but she was able to continue caring for them in her home in Chatham.  There was always food and water on the front porch for hungry kittens and a shelter to keep them warm when it was cold.

Cathy, we will miss you and you will never be forgotten,

Love, your brother Mike

In keeping with her passion for animals, friends wishing to remember Cathy with a memorial donation are encouraged to consider Big Fix Grassroots Cat Rescue.

So sorry to hear about Cathy. I have so many fond and fun memories of us riding the bus and living in Cedar Springs. I was thinking about you and Cathy just last week. Every time I think of the Humane Society, I thought of Cathy. Treasure the memories and keep them close to your heart. R.I.P. Cathy

I was Cathy's supervisor when she tended the animals at the regional centre. She was also a photography buddy, we also shared a few meals in my backyard. She was truly an exceptional person. I remember when I found out she was working 16 hrs. for us and 40 hrs. at the SPCA, I told her she was nuts, she told me I would know nuts, having been there a number of times myself. She was one of the most caring people I have met. Her passing is truly a loss to this world. My condolences to you and your family, you will be in my thoughts as she will always be. Dan

Mike, I’m so sorry for the loss of your sister. She was such a sweet soul and she was one of the kindest people I know. I have always been grateful for our friendship and will never forget the kindness that she extended to me when I lost both of my dogs in a short period of time. She and her coworkers at the OSPCA had my pets names engraved on the pet memorial at Mud Creek and she had a tree planted in their names. One of the kindest things that anyone has ever done for me. Cathy and I ran into each other unexpectedly just a few months ago and had a lovely time catching up — although it had likely been 15 years since I’d seen her, we picked-up where we left off — the sign of a true friend. Our community has lost a lovely person but Heaven just gained a lovely soul. God bless you and your family Mike.

So sorry to hear about your sister. She was a great person. Loved our late games of Monopoly that went on for nights. I wish we would have stayed in touch. Thinking about you Mike.

Mike, Doug and extended family, please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Cathy. Growing up we had so much fun and Cathy even taught me how to milk a cow (old Sweetheart) at the farm at SRC. We lost touch many years when life got busy and we went our different paths, but Bob updated me once in a while on what everyone was doing. Keep and cherish all the wonderful memories you have, as will I.

Dear Michael and family. Mom and I send our heartfelt condolences at this so very sad time. Heaven has gained a wonderful soul. A great Aunt of mine always said that God takes the best ones first(early). RIP Cathy. Sincerely Dorothy and Glenn Wright

Cathy had a soulful way of connecting with four-legged and feathered creatures, and a special way of communicating with them. Whether they were domesticated or feral, large or small... Even skunks exuding a less than pleasant odour... Cathy cared dearly for all of them, as she did for the people in her life. I am very sorry to hear of her passing and will remember her beautiful smile, happy laugh and generous heart. I can only imagine the stampede that must have occurred in the heavens as animals raced to greet her and loved ones embraced her once again. Heartfelt sympathy,

Sending hugs and prayers to you and your family Mike on the loss of Cathy. Her infectious smile and laugh and especially her pure and kind heart and soul endeared her to all she met and to those of us who were blessed with her friendship. I miss you already so very much my dear friend ~ we’ll meet up again someday ~ on the Rainbow 🌈 Bridge with all the beloved pets we’ve both had over the years. XO.

Mike, Remembering the times shared with Cathy, from her H.R. Public School days. May you find comfort in your memories that you had with your sister. Thinking of you.💕

My sincere condolences to you Mike and Doug. Cathy had a beautiful and loving soul. She will be dearly missed.

My sincere condolences to the whole family! Thoughts and prayers coming your way!

We are very sorry to hear of Cathy passing away. We had a wonderful visit with her last year at the Crawford Reunion. Our sincere condolences Mike & family.

Cathy you were the one person I could count on no matter what. You have been my dearest friend these last few years and your absence has left a large hole in my life and my heart. You will be greatly missed kid.

Mike: I am so happy that I had a chance to reconnect with Cathy even though only briefly before her passing. She always called me her big sister. Your sister may have passed, but her memory will always be in my heart and on my mind. She was and is loved, and I’m extremely sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss Mike and all the family.

Mike & Doug, I am so sorry to hear this. I didn't know her very well but Larry often mentioned what a great person she was. Deepest sympathy from the Solski family.

Condolences to the family. I volunteered at the SPCA when Cathy was manager. She was an awesome person and like me, loved animals.

Mike and family, so very sorry for your loss and at such a young age. Bill & I remember Cathy for all her help when we adopted a puppy, and her time at the Regional Centre. May all the great memories remain a comfort for you. R.I.P.
