Allan Clifford Smith

1934 – 2021

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our father, brother and grandpa in his 88th year.  He passed quietly with his family by his side.

Born and raised in Morpeth Ontario, Allan was the son of the late Stanley (Stub) and Irene (Makey) Smith.

Beloved husband of the love of his life, the late Mary Ellen (Hall) Smith.  Loving father of LaVera (Thomas) of Toronto, Lillian (Greg) of Chatham and Carmen (Tawnya) of Ridgetown.  Much loved Grandpa to Amber, Brennon and Carly.

Survived by his dear sister Rose Marie Smith of Morpeth and predeceased by his brothers Carmen and Donald Smith and by his sister Verda Holdaway.

Allan was a master story teller who enjoyed nothing better than sharing his stories with friends and family.  He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter.  His love for the Toronto Blue Jays will always be remembered and he was often found cheering on his own family at the ball diamond.  He never shied away from hard work and took pride in running his backhoe and trenching business.  Foremost was his passion for family and he would never hesitate to offer a helping hand when asked.

We are smiling through our tears as we remember all the good and wonderful things Allan, Dad and Grandpa gave to all of us.  We will miss his boyish smile and his amazing love for us all.  It was Dad’s wish for our family to remember him privately at a graveside service in Morpeth Cemetery.

Our family wishes to extend our gratitude to the staff of the Village on the Ridge in Ridgetown and the staff of Medicine A, 4th floor at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for the kindness that you showed to Dad.

Friends wishing to remember Allan with a memorial donation are asked to consider the P.A.W.R. or the War Amps.

Condolences

Lavera, Lillian & Carmen, We were so sorry to hear of Allan's passing. He was such great guy, liked by everyone & what a story teller. I mentioned to some of you several years ago, you should be recording his stories as he knew most of Morpeth's history. Boy could he ever make you laugh with someone of those tales.!He will be greatly missed by so many, but especially your family. Remembering him & the legacy he has left is the best healing hand there is. You are in our thought & prayers.

My thoughts are with the family at this difficult time

We are sorry to hear of Allan’s passing. We have many memories of events with Allan. Repairing tile on our farm, Morpeth cemetery, Morpeth hockey team, shuffleboard league, coffee club and a couple trips to Niagara Falls. We enjoyed his stories and his jokes. We often remarked about his great memory for history around the Morpeth area. He will be missed. Our sympathy to all his family. Pete and Anje Rose.

Condolences to the family. We had a good visit with Allan at the Village a couple of weeks ago. He will be missed. Clayt Osborne

To Allen's family: We are so very sorry for the loss of Allen. He was quite the fellow, always friendly but ready to tease. He will be missed by everyone whose heart he touched. I personally remember Allen from at least 60 years ago when he helped coach the ladies softball team with my dad, ( Mac Shewburg). He was quiet but lots of fun. Enjoy the memories, they will help you through this very difficult time. Rick and Nancy Shabley

We were very saddened to hear of Allen's passing. You are right about his story-telling - he couldn't resist telling a few good ones about his cousin Harold whenever I would run into him. He will be missed for sure, but always remembered. Our hearts go out to you. Heather (& Jeff Brodie, Lyle & Brenda Garrett and Dorothy Smith)

Our sincere condolences to all the family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Tom & Sue MacDonald

Our heartfelt sympathy to all the family on Allan’s passing. He was indeed a kind and generous man. My two young sons and I were on the receiving end of Allan’s kindness when he didn’t hesitate for a moment to repair a frozen waterline leading into our house many years ago. Allan surely made this world a better place.

We would like to send you our sincere condolences. We hope that your amazing memories give you comfort when you need it most.

LaVera, Lillian, Carmen, Rose Marie, and families: Our sincere condolences on the passing of Allen (Smitty). Cherish the memories of the life you shared...he will be in your hearts forever.

To Allan's family - Please accept our sincere sympathy in the passing of Allan, our thoughts and prayers are with each of you at this very difficult time. It was always a pleasure to visit with Allan, we had many good discussions over the years and tried to let him know what was going on at the Church when he wasn't able to attend. May the peace that comes from the memories of love shared comfort you now and in the days to come. Death is not the end, it is only the passing on from time into eternity for the children of God. Death is not extinguishing the light, it is putting out the lamp because dawn has come.

To LaVera, Lillian, Carmen & their Families Our deepest sympathy on the passing of your Dad and Grandpa. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time. Dayle & Donna Zehr

We could always find you at Yeck's and the ball diamond. We love the story of how you got Howie out of bed with the starter pistol. We are blessed with many laughs and grateful our paths crossed. We will cherish those memories. Deepest condolences to the whole family.

Rest in peace Great Uncle Allan. My condolences to the Smith families.

We will miss you Uncle Allan . Over the years we learned the history of Morpeth through the many, many stories. My best years was the years I travelled with you showing Shetland ponies all over Ontario and winning the top prizes at the CNE and most of all the Big Win at the Royal Winter Fair when Ovation took top prize in North America (So proud). You were a great companion to sit with at ball games and will be so missed. The past couple years were so hard with all your medical problems and isolation and the loss of your friend Peter. I was looking foreword to seeing you and Peter racing around town on your scooters but life decided this was not to happen. Heaven has gained a wonderful story teller and family man.

I send my deepest condolences to you all he was one amazing guy!!
