Theresa Maria Henderson (nee Huybers) peacefully passed away on September 15, 2022 at the Sun Parlor Nursing Home in Leamington at the age of 88. She was the daughter of the late Barend and Maria Huybers (nee Bernaards) and predeceased by 17 siblings. She was the loving wife to the late Reg Pardoe and the late Peter Henderson.
Sadly missed by her large extended family. Theresa worked many years as a housekeeper and enjoyed gardening, sewing, cross stitching and a variety of crafts as her hobbies. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery. Donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Theresa would be appreciated. When Theresa married my uncle, Peter Henderson, I recall their wedding and reception being held on a nice day with lovely weather, good food, and lively company. They looked happy and we were happy for them. We were all there. And thus Theresa became part of our big, loud, funny family. She attended with Uncle Peter and, after his death, on her own, our weddings and baby showers. She was there at our family gatherings in Corunna. She came to Christmas and Easter celebrations, anniversaries and birthdays, and all the other little get togethers a family has. Also just so many simple visits for a cuppa and a chat. When one of us was informed of her death, messages were sent, calls were made and soon all of us knew about the passing of one of our own. Two weeks after the fact. Over the years since Uncle Peter’s own passing, there was a deliberate effort made to distance Theresa from Uncle Peter’s side of her family. Pictures drawn by great nieces and nephews were removed from her room. Photos and cards taken down. Telephone numbers blocked. Despite this, those of us who lived in the area continued to visit Theresa regularly. As her health deteriorated they reminded her of her marriage to Peter and helped her stay connected to the family. The decision, and whoever made that decision, to isolate her, even in death, from her family is a sorrowful and- it must be said- shameful one. We were not, not even her sister in law, part of the “private family interment”. Still she remains with us in our thoughts and our hearts, as part of the Henderson clan. Rest In Peace, Theresa. Christina
