With deep sadness we share that Debby Shewburg passed away on October 30, 2024.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.  Debby showed us how to be brave in the face of adversity and how to live life to the fullest.

Debby was born in Owen Sound on August 4, 1955 to the late Robert and Alma Mandeno and was raised in Cedar Springs.  She was the youngest of ten siblings; Violet and Tim Rutherford, Margaret and Murray White, Ken and Bonnie Mandeno, Brian and Val Mandeno, Maurice and Hedy Mandeno, Ron and Vickie Mandeno, Cathy Rivest, Carol and Dennis Munn, Joan and Roy Pickering and many nieces and nephews.

On May 10, 1975 Debby married her best friend John Shewburg, son of Jack and Mary Shewburg and brother to Diane and Ron Sloman.  Together, they began a journey that would span over 49 years.  They raised three children who they have always been very proud of; Michael Shewburg and Ryan Shantz, Jill and Tim DeMaeyer, Heather and Ryan Broadbent.  Debby’s grandchildren brought her great joy.  Debby was a proud Grandmother to Olivia and Ella DeMaeyer, Marshall Shewburg Shantz, Jackson, Hudson and Emary Broadbent.  She will be missed by her dog, Holly.

Debby loved to watch her grandchildren play sports.  She could often be found cheering loudly from the stands.  Debby never missed an opportunity to spend time with her family.  We are grateful for the lessons she has taught us; to always be kind, caring and generous.  She was an avid baseball player herself and co-founded girl’s fastball in Blenheim.  She was a member of the Blenheim Golden Acres Curling Club for many years.

She touched the hearts of everyone she encountered.  She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will take place at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home on Saturday November 2, 2024 from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 p.m.  Cremation will follow.  A  Funeral Service conducted by Rev. Bruce Cook will take place at the Funeral Home on Monday November 4 at 1:00 p.m.  There will also be a time of visitation on Monday between 12 – 1 p.m.  A private family interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery following the service.  Family and friends are invited to gather at Willow Ridge Golf Course after the service for a reception.

Debby has requested that everyone be dressed comfortably at the visitation and funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Chatham Kent would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't seen Deb in a while but I have followed her adventures through her Facebook posts. She always seemed to be having the time of her life and those that had the pleasure of her company, always came away happier for it. Deb was always a delight and shared that delight with those of us lucky enough to know her. Hold tight to the memories.

John and the Mandeno Clan: So very sad to hear about Deb's passing. Many laughs were had at your family house in Cedar Springs. One of my favourite memories is Deb telling me when you were small and all sent outside to play (get out of your mother's hair) her siblings told here to hold on the the car handle so she didn't blow away. This also solved the problem of not allowing her to play with you. I hope you share your fond memories of a great mother, grandmother, sister and friend during this very difficult time.

John and family, we are deeply sorry for your loss and our thoughts are with you. Scott & Teresa

Deb and I were childhood friends for as long as I can remember. I have wonderful memories of our life in Cedar Springs, going to the corner store (Munn's) with our quarter to get a pop and chips. The many years picking fruit on my parents farm and riding horses until dark in the summer. Over the years we lost touch but I would see her from time to time at events in Blenheim and we would catch up and laugh at all the crazy things we did as kids. My sincere condolences to all Deb's family, she was a presence in this community and will be missed. Until we meet again my friend.

Deb was a delightful person to be around and know. She will be missed dearly. My condolence to the family

When I was little, I thought Debby was my Aunt Debby, too because when I was at Aunt Joan and Uncle Roy's house and we played with Jamie and Jeff, Aunt Debby lived across the street so we played with Michael, Jill and Heather, too and Aunt Debby was always there and happy to have any of us call her Aunt Debby and hug her, too. She was one of the warmest, kindest women around. I'll never forget her reassuring hugs the night my grandpa Elmer Pickering was in the hospital dying of cancer on Thanksgiving weekend and the whole Mandeno family came over to Aunt Joan and Uncle Roy's house to make us all dinner and be with us while our parents went back to the hospital. When my son Ollie was sick with cancer 5 years ago at age 7, she commented on every one of my posts and sent me little messages of encouragement and love. By that time her own disease had started to be more evident, but she never stopped being her sweet, empathetic and humane self. She was so happy when we finally got him to wellness and championed him as he adapted to his new blindness. She had the kindest soul. I am so very sorry for the entire Mandeno and Shewburg family's loss. Sending you all love and strength during this very sad time. Rest in peace, "Aunt" Debby.
